Annual Meetings
Each December the national advisory board meets in College Park to provide insight and direction to the members of the center. If you are interested in the summary reports of any past board meeting please see below.
6th National Meeting of the Advisory Board:
The upcoming sixth annual advisory board meeting will be held on December 10-11, 2009 at the Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. Details are coming soon on registration and travel information.
5th Annual Meeting of the National Advisory Board
The fifth annual (CR)2 Advisory Board Meeting was held at the Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in Greenbelt, Maryland December 1-2, 2008.
On Monday, December 2, Dr. Issac Lipkus from Duke University Medical Center held a brown bag discussion in the Communication Department. Dr. Lipkus discussed what it is like having a career in cancer risk communication and future directions for this area of research. In the evening, a welcome reception and dinner were held at the Greenbelt Marriott. Dr. Lipkus gave the keynote address discussing his research program on cancer risk communication.
At Tuesday’s day-long meeting, Dr. Monique Mitchell Turner reported on the progress the center has made over the past year. Several of the center’s many research projects were presented. Meryl Lubran presented research on visual attention to nutrition information on food products and Jill Cornelius Underhill presented research on the effects of anger, fear, and guilt appeals on motivating emergency preparedness. The day-long meeting was used to set an agenda for the upcoming year. In the afternoon, advisory board members, affiliated researchers, and graduate research assistants participated in strategic planning and discussed the big questions that will guide research in the area of risk communication.
4th Annual Meeting of the National Advisory Board
The 4th Annual Advisory Board Meeting meeting took place at the Greenbelt, Maryland Marriott, December 3-4, 2007. Close to 40 individuals attended the meeting, including board members, affiliated faculty and researchers, and graduate student researchers. Participants at the meeting discussed future goals and directions for (CR)2 and attended presentations of the current work being conducted in the center. Christine Bruhn, the Director of Consumer Research at the University of California, Davis, was the featured speaker at the meeting. The current (CR)2 projects were highlighted within the areas of national security, environment, and health and food issues. 2nd Annual Meeting of the National Advisory Board
On December 1st 2005, the Center for Risk Communication Research had its second annual meeting at the University of Maryland's Inn & Conference Center. During the meeting, the National Advisory Board discussed information dissemination and how to best engage in knowledge transfer. 1st Annual Meeting of the National Advisory Board
On October 29, 2004, the Center for Risk Communication Research had its first annual meeting at the University of Maryland's Inn & Conference Center. During the meeting, the National Advisory Board discussed research trends regarding food safety, security, environment, and health and created a research agenda for the Center. Specifically, the board suggested moving towards developing a model for indu stry and government to use when needing to communicate risk to the public.
